Adapt And Overcome
My name is Christopher Charles McManus-Lowson. I was born March 29th, 1987 at the Jewish General Hospital in the Montreal area. I am a mix of 2 different cultures in the sense that my mother’s side of the family is from Ireland and my father’s side is from Scotland. I currently live in the downtown Montreal area close to the old port of Montreal. Montreal is a very cultured yet multicultural area. This unique aspect is the reason why I love Montreal so passionately. I have also lived outside of Canada; I lived in south Florida for about 5 years, from age 11 to 16. This was a wonderful experience for me because I got the opportunity to live in a different culture then my own. I am a proud Canadian; however I do enjoy traveling and would love to see the world.

I am a member of the Canadian Forces. I am part of the 34th Brigade; my regiment is located near the downtown McGill University campus. I strongly believe in protecting my country’s rights and freedoms, as well as the people in it. I joined the National Defence in order to give back to a country that has given me and others so much. I chose the Canadian Grenadier Guards because they are the oldest regiment in Canada and have the best training programs in the world. I also have a part time job at the Montreal Airport. Also, once a week I work at a local restaurant in my community. I am currently enrolled full time at McGill University in downtown Montreal. This is my 3rd year studying physical and health education. This program has greatly enriched my knowledge of life, the human body, and teaching.

Before entering McGill University, I went to Vanier College where I earned a Diploma of College Studies. I studied social science in college which improved my understanding of psychology and sociology a great deal. While studying at Vanier, I held jobs in transportation companies such as CN, restaurants, factories, and customer service. I have been working many hours weekly since I graduated high school. My father past away shortly after I began college which gave me no choice but to grow up fast and become a mature young adult. My father always told me that hard work paid off and built character in a person, those words I will never forget and I hope to pass on to my children one day.

My mother and father were very supportive of my love for sports as a youth. The love for sports has now blossomed into something more than just games, it has become a passion for understanding how sports, exercise, physical activity in general, and hobbies affect people in our society. Teaching physical and health education is an area where my academic accomplishments, personal life experiences, and qualities are well suited for. I want to be able to share my knowledge of life with people. I enjoy learning new things and applying my teacher training into the people of tomorrow, the youth. I wish to be a role model for students in our local schools. I want to make a positive change in the way young people think, act, and learn. My goal is to gain and share knowledge with learners by working at an elementary school or high school as a physical education specialist, or perhaps,  as a social studies teacher. I hope to one day be able to touch people’s lives in an optimistic way.
